The Snyder Family Band performs a blend of family friendly music that appeals to all ages and audiences. What the listener will find exciting at a Snyder Family Band show is how these young musicians take from the deep well of tradition and create a unique sound that is fed not only from bluegrass, but includes influences from jazz, blues, southern rock, jazz/rock fusion, Irish, swing, old time music and newgrass. Writing and performing their own original songs gives them the opportunity to combine their musical tastes into a fresh sound. Samantha, age 14, an award-winning fiddler, has also become an accomplished songwriter, incorporating lyrics based on her faith and life experiences with beautiful and intricate melodies. She is also credited for composing instrumentals that range from soulful to upbeat Irish tunes. Zeb, age 17, brings further variety to the stage with the ability to display multiple guitar styles, including flatpicking, slide, finger-style and thumb picking. In addition to guitar, Zeb is known to be impressive on mandolin and banjo as well. His songwriting, mostly instrumental, varies from hard driving bluegrass to tunes that give tribute to some of his musical heroes such as Doc Watson and Jerry Reed.
Supporting these gifted young musicians, their dad, Bud, holds down a rock solid upright bass rhythm to round out the family’s signature sound. While Zeb and Samantha take turns sharing lead and harmony vocals, occasionally Laine, mom of the family, joins the duo on stage to create three-part harmony. And last, but not least, there are even appearances by Owen, the youngest Snyder. He enjoys a short visit to the spotlight to sing a song or play a tune on his guitar, a part of the show not to be missed.
The group's third recording on the Mountain Roads Recordings label, Building Bridges, is scheduled for release on April 23rd, 2013. This album features all original material by this talented group. Their second CD, Stages, on the Mountain Roads Recordings label was released on October 18, 2011 and follows the highly popular and successful, Comin’ On Strong, released in 2010. Building Bridges is a captivating collection of twelve original songs, eleven of which were written by either Samantha or her brother Zeb. The twelfth song, Old Timer, was co-written by Zeb with Terry Foust and Dicky Minor. Don't let their ages fool you. Put this album on your player, close your eyes and listen to some of the best instrumentation and vocals you'll hear anywhere in the acoustic world of music. Samantha and Zeb offer you a variety of sounds and styles in this latest offering performed with many different instruments in their repertoire. Samantha, influenced by Mark O'Connor and a strong faith in God, delivers beautiful instrumentals and inspiring original gospel creations. Zeb displays his full talents on Wayne Henderson & Gerald Anderson acoustic guitars, an Alvarez nylon string guitar, Gibson mandolin, Deering banjo and Wechter Scheerhorn dobro. Samantha plays both her vintage circa 1700's fiddle and her Jimmy Edmonds fiddle.
David Holt offers these words about Building Bridges; "Traditional music is always changing, like a mighty river being filled with water from many sources. It has been that way since the beginning. It is fed by innovation. It is never still. That musical change is usually driven by the young players. They have studied the masters, learned the techniques and naturally reach out to find new ways to express themselves and their generation. Samantha and Zeb Snyder are two of the finest young traditionally based musicians anywhere. Wise beyond their years, they bring new energy and ideas to the music. They are willing to bend traditions but not break them. The Snyders are musical bridge builders, linking the old with the new. You can hear yesterday in their music and get a glimpse of a bright tomorrow."
