Close Kin, A Reunion of Bluegrass & Old-Time Music

08.23.2011

Open Your Mind To A Whole New Musical Experience and Sound…

Whether you’re a fan of bluegrass or old-time music, 29 artists from both sides of the aisle have come together to create a truly unique recording that combines these two musical genres and their bold styles.

The Appalachian Highlands region of Northeast Tennessee, Northwestern North Carolina, Southwestern Virginia and Eastern Kentucky is home to the origins of both bluegrass and old-time string band music.  This music has been enjoyed for generations in kitchens and back porches, school auditoriums and music festivals and venues. Many times bluegrass and old-time artists can be heard jamming off stage at festivals before or after shows or even late into the night after the crowds have gone home. Amazing sounds are created when these styles are blended together as their heritage intended and rarely heard by the fans. Close Kin brings these sounds to the fans.

Copies will be available for sale at this time from the Mountain Roads Recordings’ web store (mountainroadsrecordings.com) and from the project’s participating artists.

Karl Cooler of Mountain Roads Recordings says, “This is a project that Johnny Williams and I have wanted to do for many years and we felt that we finally had the perfect combination of artists to make up the recording. It was especially important to us to pick songs that were both familiar and not overly recorded and team up the artists into combinations that are unlike anything out there today.  We stressed that we wanted them to bring their unique styles to each and every song. These styles coupled with Johnny’s arrangements are captivating”.  As with other Mountain Roads Recordings’ projects a video for the project is in final production stages and will also be available.

Johnny Williams, producer of the project adds, “ For many years I’ve wanted to do a project like this and Karl and Gail at Mountain Roads Recordings have made this possible. It’s great to combine the bluegrass and old-time music and I think we have some of the greatest pickers in the region on it. All music lovers, regardless of their favorite genre, will find something in the project to their liking and I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t get an awful lot of airplay”.
