Close Kin, Our Roots Run Deep Featured Artist - Lindsey Nale
Lindsey Nale is 16 years old and is from Galax Virgina. Her parents are William and Teresa Nale. Music has always been a big part of Lindsey's life, beginning with Kindermusik and piano with her mother, then school and church. She enjoys playing music with her band of nine years “The Loose Strings.” She plays the fiddle and does lead vocals and harmony in the band. Lindsey’s sister Ashley is also a member of the band. Their interest started by finding a fiddle and banjo at the home of their grandparents, Bill and Frances Nale. This has been a blessing of memories that they can share for the rest of their lives.
Lindsey's great great grandfather Walter Mooney (Grandfather of their grandmother Frances Nale), sang with The Stoneman family “Dixie Mountaineers” in 1926. This is just one of the strong music connections of bluegrass which surrounds her here in Galax Virginia. She has been an active member of Hillcrest Baptist church since her early years, and has enjoyed developing her singing voice in church musicals, and helping lead the bible school and praise music! She is also involved with the Youth and Acteens for girls at her church.
Lindsey received her first “tiny” fiddle from her “papaw” Bill Nale that was just the size for a seven year old! She began lessons with Stevie Barr and is currently taking lessons from Scott Freeman. Lindsey draws strong vocals from a musical home and grandmother Nancy Phipps, whose beautiful voice and love of music has passed from generation to generation. Lindsey also enjoys learning about other instruments and will soon be attempting her new Edmonds Dobro! Who knows what we will be seeing or hearing this year! Lindsey has also been blessed to receive the Wayne Henderson and Houstonfest scholarships.
Other interests include song writing, cheerleading, soccer, drama, musicals, hunting, and getting her drivers license, look out world! Lindsey is very excited about the Youth Close Kin project and has met some new wonderful bluegrass musicians and friends! Lindsey has been known to bring loads of energy and laughter to those around her!
Lindsey thanks God for her family, friends and talents!
